Still mucking around...

It is now March 31st and still, I have not been able to put down the sugar and get on with the business of living sugar-free. So much for my resolve!

I can't seem to convince myself any more that it is worth putting down the sugar when I have so much fun with it...

Perhaps the way to go for it is to avoid being so incredibly strict?

or perhaps this is the path to hell?

God, I don't know...

Back on track day three

Hey There

It is day three of being off the business again.

I am already feeling clearer, but as happened last time, I have been eating much more than I need to. I found last time this went on for about four days, and then by the fifth day, things went back to normal.

Today my treats have been big fat sultanas with shredded coconut. I also have a coffee at 3.30pm.
The coffee was not strictly part of the plan, but I feel it to be the lesser of two evils at this current juncture. I must be honest, and say that it did make my throat swell a little and feel "not great".

Anyway, I'll keep you informed.

I fell off the wagon

Hey There

All things were going swimmingly.

Then I went to a wedding, and drank too much wine.

Then the next week I drank too much wine, and a coffee.

Then later, I ate some chocolate mousse.

Now it's every day, I'm eating sweeties. And I feel absolutely shocking.

Tomorrow marks the beginning of the gruelling climb back on to the wagon.

This for me means I am not going to able to drink alcohol for about a month, just to get things back on track.

Wish me luck, and thanks

Doing Good

Just checking in.

Tonight I had my first show ever without either coffee, sugar, gluten or alcohol to pep me up. This, friends, was unusual and uncomfortable to start with, but I soon warmed up and enjoyed myself.

I think I am starting to get through the withdrawal's at a deeper level. I seem to be more awake, but also more sleepy. Today, for example, I slept for four hours in the middle of the day. This lack of coffee makes me realise how tired I must have been this whole time, just naturally, and wonder about the effects of covering this over day after day for years and years, as we tend to do to commonly in these here times.

Anyway, I am surviving. My body is loosing weight, and a steady pace. I am feeling a lot better than I did.

That's all for today!

Starting to feel good!

 Hey There

Well, shortly after I started this blog, I was diagnosed with a thyroid disorder - under active, early stages.

It was really the boost I needed in order to take my sugar-free lifestyle more seriously. Now I am also gluten, coffee, and mainly dairy free.

It's been a few weeks, and I have survived dinner's out, drinks, cooking birthday cakes and birthday parties. It's actually not so hard once you accept that this is the way it is.

I have lost a few kg's, and when I wake up in the morning, life is easier. My moods - I'm still mad, but less quick to react.

Day Six - pick up sticks (and cry a little)

Yesterday was day six, and it was the worst yet. Not bad in terms of holding out from sugar - that has become relatively simple. It was just the tears, the body aches, the emotions. It's possible I'm also running a virus at the same time as giving up sugar, or it's possible that these symptoms are part of the withdrawal process.

All I know was that there was barely a room I entered yesterday that did not see me burst into tears in it's surrounds.

So that's why I say Day Six, pick up sticks. In the same way the Zen proverb "chop wood, carry water". Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. Life must go on, sticks still need to be picked up, and pick them up I will.

The psychological addiction to sugar is the biggest stumping post I run up against - just the usual way I have of bringing forth my "energy" for a big day with work or the kids, it doesn't work anymore. Coffee makes me feel ill, my body doesn't want it.

So I have to listen to my body. SOmeone said to me yesterday - "Your body would not punish you. Your body is your best friend - it is always trying to tell us things and when we don't listen, we get chronically ill". She was a Dr. She has a point.

Love,

Day Three

Breakfast beans, beans, more beans, with lots of olive oil and rosemary and garlic. Yoghurt with fruit

Lunch; tomato and tuna sauce with rice

Dinner: mexican mince with cous cous, salad and roasted pumpkin

Moodwise, wow what a day. Late night up with the babies, slept through till 7.30pm. Really really grumpy day. Yelling at people in anger pretty much all day - really low tolerance, fiercely bad mood, wanted to kick and blame something or someone.

Managed to avoid avacado at dinner- proud. Had double the sour cream though!

Also noticing this terribly annoying thing; that when I drink coffee (with soy milk), my throat feels like it is swelling up, and gets uncomfortable. On top of this, I get a very similar problem when I drink beer or wine, with the addition of my nose being blocked suddenly. At this stage I have limited myself to one coffee a day, and two generous serves of alcohol on Friday and Saturday, but am I going to have to give up this pleasure as well? Am I wheat or sulphites intollerent?

Is there anything I can enjoy?

Yes

a juicy fresh peach
garlic, ginger and basil
cup of tea
bonsoy
eggs with rice
duck
seasoned tempeh
smoked tofu
big fresh salad
fresh mint and lime with soda and ice
salty pork
a few pieces of dried fruit (easy tiger)
lovely things

Goodbye nasty day three.

Cups of tea.
